こんにちはー！
先週末は私とKIYOの二人とも2日連続でジュエリーのワークショップを行っておりました！今日は土曜日に行われたワークショップのお話です。
Hello!
Me and Kiyo held jewellery workshops last Saturday and Sunday. Today I will talk about the workshop held on Saturday.
土曜日はKIYOの関わっている『夢と学校』という大きなプロジェクトの一環で、那覇市の壺屋小学校を使って小学校高学年生向けにワークショップを行いました。『夢と学校』ではジュエリーデザインの他、ファッション、美容、スタイリング、写真、お笑い、キャラクターデザイン、空手などのスペシャリストが講師となり授業をしました。
On Saturday, we did workshop at Tsuboya Primary School in Okinawa for 4-6th grade students as a project called ” Dream and School (yume to gakkou).” There were also workshop on fashion, beauty, styling, photography, comedy, character design and karate other than jewellery desgin, with experts in each field.
当日は私たちが教えている沖縄写真デザイン工芸学校のジュエリー科の生徒3人と妹のTOMOKOも私と一緒にアシスタントとして参加し、ワークショップは大盛況でした✨
Our little sister Tomoko and jewellery students from Okinawa School of Photo Design and Craft came and helped the workshop. Our class was a huge success✨
このプロジェクトはタイトル通り、学校で子供達に夢を与えるという目的で行われたのですが、参加してくれた子供達は皆活気に満ち溢れていて、目を輝かしながら自分にしかできないオリジナルジュエリー作りに取り組んでいました。中には私もKIYOも圧倒されるほどぶっとんだジュエリーを作った子もいました！一人一人の感性が本当に独特で私たちもすごく刺激を受けました。
This project, as its title explains, aimed to give kids a dream, and I believe we did it! Everyone who joined our workshop was very energetic and worked on his or her original jewellery with sparkling eyes. Some children even wowed us with their statement jewellery! It was a very good experience for us to interact with kids and get inspired by them.
私が小さい頃もそうでしたが、沖縄は特に仕事や職業に対して安定思考で野心が薄いような気がします。クリエイターと呼ばれる仕事で果たして食べていけるのか、公務員になって安定した収入があった方が幸せなのではないか、意見はそれぞれだと思いますが、私は好きな事を仕事にする、もしくはもう既に始めている仕事を好きになる事が一番大切なのではないかと思います。
Since I was little, I have been thinking why people in Okinawa are so less ambitious for their jobs and look for stability. Can you eat as a creator or an artist? Isn’t it better to get a stable income by becoming a public servant? There would be different opinions about it, but I reckon that it’s most important to make what you like into what you do, and vice versa.
「好きこそものの上手なれ」という言葉がありますが、まさにその通りで、好きだからこそ上手くなろうと思うし努力もする。その努力もそんなに苦じゃなかったりします。これがもし嫌いな事だったら、いやいや努力するのも苦しいし続けられない。自分のやっている事に意味や価値を見出すのが難しくなると思います。沖縄では最近子どもの貧困が大きく問題視されていますが、特に私たちが守らないといけないのは子供達の夢ではないでしょうか。
There is a saying, ” What one likes, one will do well.” Because you like it, you want to get better and try harder. You can’t try hard and continue what you don’t like, and also it would be hard to find out the value and meaning of it. These days, child poverty is a big problem in Okinawa. I think that what we have to protect most is children’s dream.
小さい頃は色々とやりたい事やなりたい職業に胸を躍らせていても、大きくなるにつれて現実にぶつかり、行きたい学校に行けないとかやりたい事を諦めるという事が普通になっているような気がします。ウォルト・ディズニーの「夢を求め続ける勇気さえあれば、すべての夢は必ず実現できる。」という言葉にははっとさせられるものがあります。私も回り回ってデザイナーという職業を選びましたが、選んだからには絶対一つ抜きん出た存在になりたいですし、この分野で成功する事は沖縄の人達、特に子どもに夢と希望を与えられるのではないかと思っています。
儲ける・儲けないの基準でなりたい仕事を探すのではなく、この仕事は面白い・好き・挑戦したいの基準で決める人が増えていってほしいなと思います。
Even though people were excited about their future dreams when they were children, as they grow up some people get confronted with reality such as financial problems, ending up by giving up a school and even what they wanted to do. Walt Disney said, “All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them.” His words woke me up when I first came across it. I chose designer as my career after my long study, with a hope of becoming an outstanding one in this field. I think I would be able to give a dream and hope to people in Okinawa, especially children if I get successful.
I hope more people choose their jobs on whether it’s interesting or not, than whether it’s well-paid or not.
なんだかとてもアツい話になってしまいましたがw、今回のようなイベントやプロジェクトがどんどん増えて、皆が希望を持って楽しく過ごせる環境ができていったらいいですね♪
I’ve got a little too passionate, but I hope that this kind of events come up regularly and change things in a good way.
